Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

It has been an interesting year for me. I’ve published 3 books of the Master Blasters series on Amazon and done NaNoWriMo with a Sherlock Holmes pastiche. Other projects are in submission to a publisher and agents.

I’ve also lasted through the second year of the pandemic. It certainly encourages staying home and writing, and I’ve been doing a lot of that. My mental health is certainly the better for it.

I’ve learned a lot. Mastery is a journey, and I’m enjoying the journey. The fourth book in the Master Blasters series is being written, and I’ll be posting some snippets soon. “The Snowball Contract” is a little different. The peril comes from a different direction.

The old guy is going to ramble a little. One of the questions that gets asked a lot on Reddit /r writing, where I sometimes lurk and occasionally post, is some variant of “what does it take to be a writer/ author?”

Those are, by the way, two different things. Writers write. Authors get published.

That said, this is my own two cents. Your writing is your voice. If you want it to be interesting to others, be interesting.

Personally, I’ve had a varied and interesting life. Raised in a log cabin, seen sunrise over the Pacific and weathered its typhoons, seen two wars and watched others unfold, earned my pay in a secret world few are allowed to see.

My life path isn’t everyone’s, nor should it be. If you want to write, you should travel and learn. Learn new skills, meet new people, experience new things and step out of your comfort zone.

Ours is an age of turmoil and crisis, but it is also an age of adventure and discovery. Take the good, leave the bad, enjoy the journey.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
