Portal Authority Contract #1

The Portal Authority Contract universe departs from our own in the near future, when a Portal appears in the Earth Moon L1 point, and broadcasts a First Contact package to the entire world, in a synthetic language which has to be translated. A lot of people are very highly motivated to find out what it says and what aliens who can build such a construct want of humanity.

The Fimbulwinter Contract is the first in the series. The Portal is a node in a transport network which connects thousands of races, run by the enigmatic Portal Alien Race(s). Earth has a free trial of one Star Period. After that, we have to pay the bill to keep the Portal. In Galactic currency.

Some things are universal. The new kid in the workplace gets the crap. Murphy is everywhere. Start-ups can fail.

Humanity does have one edge. We are the only race that’s crazy enough and gadget-mad enough to build nuclear bombs.
